This is my message to David Lametti - newly appointed ambassador to the UN. There is no such thing as a bystander int the face of genocide. His claims that Canada waits for all the evidence before doing anything is a falsehood.

When I was placed on the Professor Watchlist in 2021, people sent death threats about my children. I had security officers monitor my 8yo at school. Where is all the outrage for those of us who have been targeted for years? Where is the outrage for our families? My own colleagues are silent.

Posting a criticism of Charlie Kirk - much less noting something outrageous he himself said - is not “celebrating” his murder. Nor is it condoning his murder. It is simply saying that his political career and legacy are not something to be celebrated. And that is not the same thing at all.

I’ve been reading Manufacturing Consent this week and OOF does it ever validate so much of what I experienced during my years spent working in national mainstream media! The model is painfully accurate, and I’d argue it’s been exacerbated today by digital adtech monopolies and mass layoffs.

Every tech update now is like: "Great news, the word processor you've relied on for twenty years has learned to juggle! Is it good at it? No! Does it help in any way? Of course not! Has it made it insufferable to use? Oh, absolutely."

I must continue to insist that this is not a strong regime. It does not have the kind of pan-societal support needed to enforce Gleichshaltung. It has significant elite buy-in and a small popular coalition, but it is brittle and feeble and will collapse if pressed hard enough.

Roe vs. Wade (abortion) Obergefell (gay marriage) HIPAA (medical record privacy) All of these depend upon right to privacy laws which stem from the 14th amendment. All of these connect to each other and are being systematically torn apart. All of our fates are connected.

Fascism is here. We are not “getting closer” or “in danger of.” This matters because it frames our discussion: We aren’t trying to prevent it, we’re trying to defeat it. It’s not taking over our institutions, it’s taken them over. Otherwise, we’re always behind, fighting a past we’ve already lost.
