Eliza McLamb had an apt analogy abt modern fandoms: Fans no longer treat creators as creators. Fans treat creators like stock options they’ve invested in; like they’re part owners of a creator’s work just by *being fans*, and therefore get a say in what creators make/how they act. And it sucks.

The biggest issue with indie is that animation is inherently expensive and generally unprofitable unless targets the widest audience imaginable (hence why it’s almost always exclusively kids films). But a decentralized culture that shouts out and supports smaller projects would be amazing!

Basically, I don’t want people to have to go through Glitch if they want their films seen in theatres. That quite literally was the exact problem that the studio system created. No amount of playing ‘benevolent dictator’ could fundamentally fix that issue.

The UK government is looking to make legal for AI companies that which any ordinary citizen could be taken to court for. It is on the cusp of approving theft *only* in this case, a truly unequivocal “rules for thee, not for me” scenario. That AI needs such special treatment indicts it utterly.

Going out of your way to judge someone's every move, and making up hidden motives to make them appear horrible is extremely shitty, obsessive and unhealthy behaviour.

We need to redefine the boundaries between artists and creatives and we can only do that if we call out ANY AND ALL instances of gross fan entitlement and over reach. Do it even if you’re not particularly a fan of the person in question. Only then can we stand a chance against fighting this menace.

If you find yourself getting legitimately worked up about someone else’s work of art to the point you want them sincerity removed off of their own project then you just might be entitled to another artists imagination.

You can dislike someone without scrutinizing their every move to find something "evil" to justify yourself. Not everyone you dislike is inherently horrible, it's fine to just not like them and be kind and NORMAL about it.

Here’s the thing and I’m gonna tell you: a lot of fans are why so many creators just don’t want to create anymore. And so many of them are oddly proud of their ability to bully. In order for cartoons as a concept to survive, they need to knock that shit off.

You can love a work of fiction to the point you want it told the absolute best way possible, but that impulse can run against the purpose of it coming from specific people. To appreciate something as having a point, you have to appreciate that it's expressing something,
