Instead of 60 days of war with Iran, we could have had 6 months of universal childcare + preschool for every single kid in the United States.

I always see nonpartisan, righteous anger at public art. Everyone loves to hate a concrete blob bought with taxpayer money, what's it even meant to be etc. My hot take: art funding is good and there's no benign policy for keeping out 'bad' art. You really just gotta fund it until a good one happens

A huge number of cradle Catholics I’ve heard talk about him—lapsed or not—have gone on to talk A Certain Way about adult converts, and I think non-Catholics don’t really understand this part of the culture because Protestantism is so much more loosey-goosey about a lot of this kind of stuff

Jesus is a literal prophet in Islam, practising muslims hold him in pretty high regard. It's when you ask people in the West who make Christianity their personality about Islam that the disrespect flows

Simon was our letterer for BE NOT AFRAID, and he's a major reason why the project turned out as well as it did -- Mr. Phim's angelic script, over and against the shaky regular script of the mortals, builds the mood beautifully without ever being too heavy of an effect.

Hotlines for US soldiers thinking of leaving the armed forces as "conscientious objectors" are being overwhelmed. Almost all the calls mention the bombing of the girls' school in Iran that killed more than 100 school children.

Since Trump began his second term, his administration's use of the armed forces has left a growing number in the military unsettled, according to NPR interviews with service members and advocates.

i never said you have to get formal training or a degree of any kind. study can be self-study. practice can be making lots of drafts. experience can involve sending your work out to galleries/publishers and/or sharing it online. i just mean actually doing the work. not just fantasizing/aspiring.

Some writers are great at being public figures but others write, a solitary profession, exactly because we aren’t good at that. Even a fantastic sum of money might not be enough to make you change your basic nature. What to do? If you’re Helen DeWitt you write something funny & honest.
