Good. Also, fuck the Department of Education for attempting to pull this bullshit in the first place, and fuck this whole racist, shitty administration. And fuck ICE, while I'm at it, because that's just an evergreen at this point.

It’s easy to think writing is mainly the transcription of ideas you already have—that is, until you try to write something worthwhile, and you find what you thought were saying transform into something far more interesting in the process. This skips that last step, and that is *not* an improvement.

New from me: an example of how the voices of "moderation" have ALWAYS gotten it wrong in struggles for civil rights & equality. This would be a very good time to FINALLY collectively figure this out.

A Big Five editor I interviewed “It’s impossible to get reviews. And the reviews you do get are not moving the needle. Literary fiction is review-driven. So if you're not getting reviews, or the reviews you’re getting are not getting eyes on them, it’s like, well, then what are you supposed to do?”

I know Kevin knows this, but the explanation for this is clear: It's racism. Racism and xenophobia and misogyny. A white native-born American, living in the parts of the country where white native-born men still hold disproportionate power, is the only fully "real" American in the eyes of many.

I have family who are BIG winter people. As in, they're essentially unreachable in winter because they're somewhere on a mountain doing something very fast on skis. One texted me that it is -17°, their pipes are frozen, and they're wearing ski socks to work. This winter broke the winter people.

I write weird-ass books. They take a long time to write: I pour layers of weird and the layers need to set before I can layer on more weird. But it's still a story. I'm not worried about a machine automating weirdness. The internet has been weird my whole life and we've still needed weird stories.

A lot of "golden age" science fiction has interesting ideas and workman-like-at-best prose, and Asimov was no exception to this. He and many other GA SF writers benefitted from "first-mover" status, and also, editors who preferred neat SF concepts (and men) over exceptional prose (and women).

This is the stuff that marks someone as a danger. Not even just that he intends to sneak back into an organizing space where he’s been told that he’s unwanted; the need to publicly brag about it, and make sure everyone knows. You cannot do collaborative work with someone who only centers himself.
