Gen AI is bad AND I would argue it's not even art. A highly debated case of art/ownership involved brothers buying war photos and drawing on top of them, then displaying those in the gallery. Gen AI doesn't have the decency to at least pay for the shit it steals first.

Art is mostly intention (of the artist) or reaction (of the audience). You can make art without being paid or displayed in a gallery. You can make art by putting premade objects on a pedestal. But a human has to be involved in the process of creation, by intention or action.

The most contested days in my various art degrees' education was when we discussed "what is art" which lands on requirements etc. We always agreed that starving/suffering artist was a dumb trope capitalizing on underpaying artists.
