Why raise the salience of an issue where you're actually the one that looks bad and stupid? Credit to Yglesias he doesn't actually do this on Israel, he gave up once he saw the polling.

Is there a reason that nobody on the pro Israel side learned anything from the failure to box Mamdani in on an issue where he's in line with 80% of Democratic voters and they're not? It is clear they didn't learn anything since it's being repeated on El Sayed and seems to be having the same effect.

I think this is especially harmful at a time when people are seeing the Trump administration destroy government and are feeling the effects of it. Now, more than ever, is the time for Democrats to make the case for all the ways government can improve lives, and how we must all pitch in to do that.
