Designers think by making. This is why prolific ideation is so important. You can delegate some to AI but there are muscles that will atrophy. That is the intersection of systems thinking, interaction, framing and behavioral hypothesis in the journey of crafting. These muscles gives you ingenuity.

something people don't talk much about in this era of "publishers expecting a near-finished game before investing" is games are being made sub-optimally in order to speed-run vertical slices/convincing demos instead of finalising systems then building content, you have to make content alongside 1/

Thinking about using a UI library for Ouranos; it's going to impose some arbitrary limits but it'll make experimentation and development easier. If I go through with this, it'll be through a soft redesign

I've been busy these last few weeks, but I'll have more time till the end of the year to work on Ouranos. The main thing I'll focus on is refactoring. In many ways, Ouranos is a first draft. Many folks have started looking at it, forking and experimenting, so I want to make this easier for them

Did you know NextAuth.js' client-only "getSession()" helper sends a request to "/api/auth/session" which is naturally counted towards your function invocation limit on Vercel? You can guess how I found out (to be fair, it was specified in their docs)

blurring the boundaries between apps

If you visit a profile on Ouranos, you'll see a new "Atmosphere" tab. This is part of an ongoing process of supporting ATProto apps. So far I've added support for @frontpage.fyi, @linkat.blue, and @whtwnd.com. The design will evolve as I test and experiment, and I'm aiming to support more apps.

It's the little things

Specifically on the state of the social web, ATProto has been a glimmer of hope, more so as the ecosystem has continued to grow beyond Bluesky, hinting at possible futures. I was too late for pre-dot-com Y2K but from where I stand, in some ways I can understand how exciting it must have been

What a great session! It was great seeing the things @mozzius.dev, @aparker.io, and @pouriade.com have been working on. Seeing @smokesignal.events integration made my jaw hit the floor. Amazing work. I'm so happy to contribute to this space of talented and collaborative people.

this is a period in history in which it's more important than ever to be socially and civilly engaged. if we're going to take people away from more physical engagements, what is the exchange we're offering for their time? what are we giving them that's better than what they'd otherwise be doing?

"Complex tools elevate experts and intimidate novice users." That's great for solo professional tools – but terrible for collaborating with people of different job types (e.g. devs, designers, PMs trying to communicate with each other)
