This is possibly the dumbest bill the City Council has come up with on fare policy in recent years, and Yusef Salaam, Oswald Feliz, and Chris Banks should be embarrassed to put their names on this garbage.

An odd bill by @cmyusefsalaam.bsky.social for DOT to "studying a zone-based transit fare system" but.... it's not the zones you are thinking of, it's to charge everyone in a high income district more, and everyone in low income districts less. I strongly agree with this - NYPD should aggressively enforce "don't-block-the-box" during gridlock alert days. It's literally one of two key ingredients that results in gridlock. Since officers are already there, it would cost the city nothing.

People basically want the most common-sense form of public safety you can possibly imagine: They want cops and social workers who are polite and professional, who show up quickly when called and who resolve problems peacefully. That's it.

In Brazil 🇧🇷, the "Tarifa Zero" (fare-free transit) movement is showing impressive results. Cities that adopted it saw a 3.2% increase in formal employment and a 7.5% jump in local businesses. 138 cities are already on board and a national plan is being discussed.

I rode with a friend side by side today in the 9th Ave bike lane and it was so refreshing it triggers me to see a sliver of a bike lane *for two directions* as the design failure it is. Those car lanes are over 10’ wide here. 4’ extra feet if they were right sized.
