I write books. They might not be your sort of thing but maybe you know someone whoâd like them. Theyâre about middle-aged people falling in love. I also work on other peopleâs books. The one on the right I am particularly proud of. I post about writing, editing, and rocks, amongst other stuff.

We had a nice Egg Lunch from this vintage Elizabeth David. I assume she wasnât dealing with fresh spinach tbh; tinned would be easier, plus Ollie âcouldnât be arsedâ with âpiping anythingâ but it was delicious and we sat in the garden.

'Two Lemons and a Lime Wrapped.' Eliot Hodgkin painted still lifes over and over throughout his career and used various objects as the basis for experimentations with shape, colour, lighting, and placement; each reminding us of life's hidden beauty. This from 1965.

Just watched a reel produced by a heritage site in Wales where the voiceover described the designs on a plaster ceiling as âpaintedâ and the presenter referred to the 1750s at âthe 17th centuryâ. Had to turn it off.

The late Steve Albini brought various good things into my life, mostly music, obviously. But the most recent gift was Swan Boy, which I started reading after he shared a strip on here. Oh my god. This arc has everything. You cannot even begin to imagine. Do yourself a favour and read it.

Thought Iâd do a wee thread about how to keep gardening costs down. Gardening is never going to be a cheap hobby (is any hobby cheap? Not in my experience!) but you donât have to spend the earth and there are many ways to keep costs down.

As a teenager I had postcards of these Hockney works on my wall. I remember standing in front of Mr & Mrs Clark and Percy for ages, on my first trip to the Tate with my dad when I was 12. A Bigger Splash is one of those paintings you've seen so often it's almost a shock to see it in real life.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 3: Reading your work aloud really helps. Try it: you'll spot at once the places where your dialogue is clunky and unnatural, or where your descriptions go on too long, or where you repeat your favourite word just a little too often...
