Made a flying visit to Lichfield earlier in the week. In the cathedral I found a mini studio set up for professional Byzantine Iconographer Hanna-Leena Ward. Quite mesmerising watching her at work, mixing traditional egg tempura pigments gathered from her travels around the world...

Reckon Alan Parker improved on it with the midpoint location move to New Orleans, the book gets quite samey with all the traipsing around New York (the clandestine chicken-sacrificing voodoo ceremony sequence occurs in Central Park!)...

Revisited Guadagnino's SUSPIRIA. Big fan of this one. I love the sickly dreary Berlin '77 setting, love the witchiness (the hierarchy of striking Euro character actors filling out Tilda Swinton's coven), the fidgety editing and crash zooms, Jessica Harper's tender cameo appearence... good stuff..!

Film Time! Watched Andrea Arnold's stripped back take on WUTHERING HEIGHTS (2011). I did love the wild elemental folk tale vibe of it (Robbie Ryan BSC MVP) buuut found it all too emotionally distant. Never really felt the passion or longing, just a whole lotta glowering...

Film Time! Watched Tokuzō Tanaka's THE SNOW WOMAN (1968). Reckon it would make a decent double-bill with Erik Blomberg's The White Reindeer, two folkloric tales centred on a doomed romance between a standard fella and a badass frosty succubus. Didn't expect to be weeping full tears by the end...

Next telly job locked in (a spooky one too!), back to Wales. Glad to hear the Cardiff spare room I usually rent is still available, always a faff having to make a good impression on new people and convince them to have me lurking around their home for a few months. A faff..!
