Most of what I contribute to Bsky is waffle. This year it will mainly be new work that I post (some might also consider it waffle! 🤷🏼‍♂️). I’ve spent the last couple of years rambling on about not being creative, that ends this year. If you’re here for waffle free illustration I won’t let you down!

A couple of days to go until I’m back at work. I’m spending the weekend reading/looking through this, a gift I got for Christmas. I loved his work when I was starting out, a big influence. The exhibition in London last summer was splendid. This new year will bring new work from me, I promise!

Two books to look out for in 2026 👀 Bridge of Storms is set in the world of Mortal Engines, and is the first of two sequels to Thunder City. Of Mice and Mummies is the eighth book in the Adventuremice series, co-authored and illustrated by @sarahmcintyre.bsky.social Happy New Year!

One of my mums handmade jumpers. This is one of the more peaceful and toned down items she made for herself. She was ALWAYS knitting. My step-Pa gave it to my partner and he’s keeping the others she made (not to wear, he’s a black T-shirt bloke like me) but they’re treasure to him.

Patches of woodland dot the landscape of the East Yorkshire Wolds. They look fine in the summertime but have an altogether gloomier look in winter, surely haunted. I’ll be back at work on Monday, my own & working with my partner. I’m looking forward to working again. Time to get started.

Helped rescue a blokes hand sized goat which then turned into a chunk of red brick & we didn’t bat an eyelid, in fact he walked off scolding the brick. My sleeping brain is a weirdo.

We watched the Bruce Springsteen film with my step-Pa last night. We all enjoyed it regardless of the fact that it got some so so reviews (I think they were duff reviews). A film about a tormented bloke doing his best to understand the torment by creating & holding his ground to get it heard 👊🏻

My sincere year-end thought isn’t an original one, but its importance has been underscored to me repeatedly over the last 12 months: be free with telling the people you love that you love them, casually, and at every chance. Great love, small love, every type of love.

Got home to see that Rear Window was on so I’ll press the button to watch it from the start. One of my absolute all time favourite films, I love EVERYTHING about it, most of all I’d love to live in the composer’s apartment. It’s a while since I’ve seen it so it’ll be great to catch it again 🤩

I found this photograph in our room at my parents house, my step-Pa had left it out for me to see. Me on the left, my older brother in the middle and my step-Pa on the left feeding pigeons in Trafalgar Square in the late 70’s, each one us looking the coolest we’d ever look. It’s just us now 😔

Back from seeing my Step-Pa, Brother and Silly Sally dog in Bridlington, our first Christmas without mum. We made the best of it but it was super sad & weird without her there. Silly Sally kept our spirits up with her desperate need for belly scratches and sad “give me a treat & hug” eyes.

Just watched Tabby McTat & it brought back the memory of having to place my hand up the rear of Tabby in my previous job. Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler visited the bookshop to promote & sign copies of the book and I had the unfortunate job of ‘entertaining’ the crowd with the Tabby puppet 👀😬

A train ride into Beverley yesterday. Purchased myself a lovely old book from Oxfam (a books only Oxfam - it was ace). Beverley is a lovely place, especially at Christmas time.

Looks like Billy Connolly gets a telling off from Ralph Fiennes for being a naughty zombie in the new 28 Years Later film.
