The death of a parent (or anyone close to you) is a peculiar experience. Both of my parents are gone ( I’m not bothered about my Dad, he was a knob) but time doesn’t seem to make it any easier, it seems to get more strange, where have they gone? Anyway, I take comfort from my stepdad and brother.

First time of being back home at my parents house on the coast knowing that mum isn’t there and will never be there again. I just feel tired 😞

A tree on one of me and my stepdad’s favourite Sally dog walks. This tree was damaged by the recent storms with the branch blocking the path. This path on the outer edges of Woldgate Woods feels haunted, like someone is watching you, I like it a lot 👀

I’ll be going to London (the temporary home to a President with a fragile ego & bottom kissing royalty) and the east coast of Yorkshire (home to cold weather). Feeling more and more like creatives should just do our own shit instead of trying to land that dream client. Write our own comics and books, program our own games, fundraise and hire each other in the art department. I feel like the whole industry is falling apart right now and we can't rely on it

There's a story in 'Intervals of Darkness' about a man who lives in a caravan on the edge of a farmer's field. He has a bit of bother with a tree during one of those 'named storms'. It's among the best things I've written, I think, and points the way to my next-but-one collection, due in 2027.
