there's something particularly hard to hold in my head about the fact that for me this may be the worst year of my life in that I have to cancel a bunch of trips and maybe lose my job but for a swathe of people in countries it will be the worst year of their lives because they fuckign starve

Stupid goo goo nonsense. The only way to get fair districting is to pinch republicans in the mouth enough until they agree to fairness. Doing this with Callais days away from ripping up the VRA is so stupid I don’t know where to begin.

I admittedly haven't kept on my Minions-verse lore, but I distinctly recall they were shown as having been frozen in ice from Napoleon to the present day, as an obvious way to dodge the implications of them "looking for another evil boss to serve" in the 20th C.

It is a strange experience watching this go on when even if the strait *had* opened today, there's a huge amount of disruption baked in here - we're hurtling towards the part of the problem that can't be solved by marketing. It may be too late to change course...but also we're not changing course.

Indeed, and as
@karnesmellagio.bsky.social
and
@notthedarkweb.bsky.social
have noted there is also a general confusion at the fact that many eastern countries simply do not place the Holocaust at the center of their moral historiography like the West. It doesn't bear the same psychological weight.

A good day to remind people that, around 2000 or so, Edward Said began routinely telling journalists and editors in his interviews that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory was now the longest in modern world history, after having surpassed the Japanese occupation of Korea.
