Car dependent cars are shit boring to drive. Car dependent roads are shit roads to drive on. Car dependent cities are shit places to drive in/visit. Car dependent drivers are shit (and dangerous) to share the roads with. There is *no* aspect of car dependency that is attractive to a "car guy".

If you are a car guy, sitting in gridlocked urban traffic, surrounded by other drivers who are barely paying attention, is the antithesis of enthusiasm. It's not fun. *Nobody* wants it. But people fear change even when it's desperately needed.

All the car people I know have turned really anti car-dependency. Let cars be for people who genuinely love them as a hobby, don't clog the roads up by forcing everyone to drive.

Exactly. Taking the dog out for a country hike while stopping for roadside eggs and honey is brilliant. Hanging out at my mechanic buddy's shop talking cars is great. But I abhor driving to a grocery store to get 3 things. Long work commutes in the car sucks...that ain't driving, it's zombie-ing.

You can be a “car guy” and not like car dependency. You can be a “car guy” and get that too many cars in cities is bad for everyone, including drivers. You can be a “car guy” and be tired of lies & manipulations like “the war on cars.” You can be a “car guy” and know more choice means more freedom.

When I was younger I used to just go for drives because I loved driving around listening to music as my go to way to just be away. I used to drive around Tulsa for hours. Commuting through rush hour traffic or driving 12 hours across the plains is miserable and I would trade it any day.
