Even established authoritarian regimes consider arresting defiant judges an extreme tactic—a serious escalation usually reserved for after one-party rule is firmly entrenched. Seeing a judge arrested in the US today should alarm everyone who values democratic governance. This cannot be allowed. 🧵

Yes. If DHS can barge in, say your visa was revoked, be told you have a green card, say it's revoked too, and then disappear you so that neither your lawyer nor your family can find you, then all the guardrails are gone. There is no policy, practice, or law protecting anyone.

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

THIS. An executive order is literally just the president telling executive branch employees "as your supervisor, do X." They are only meaningful if the president has the legal authority to implement X, which must be granted by some ACTUAL LAW either in a statute or the constitution. Period.

All of these examples definitely show the problematic ways that NSF is responding...but the truth is, those of us who do purposefully consider race, gender, disability, etc, actually do still deserve to be funded as well.

It'd be nice if this had happened _before _ 11/5.

Just got mine. Also...broader impacts sections often mention mentoring of people from underrepresented groups...so, between this and the court order, I'm very curious to see what the stop work will look like broadly...how the DEI efforts gets defined, and how it gets policed.
