The Northwest Side Rapid Response Team posted this community alert a short while ago. It describes how a resident in Albany Park was lured by a phone call that indicated they had won a prize. Another was lured to an address to pick up scrap metal. Both were detained by ICE upon arrival.

BC is my neighborhood, and while we don’t have a ton of foot traffic anyway, there are definitely fewer people out and about.

My friend told me today that all the local businesses near his house in Belmont Cragin are empty. 😔 We need to go out and support.

Latine neighborhoods like Hermosa and Belmont Cragin have suffered a decline in foot traffic and this is undoubtedly affecting local businesses. If you can, go support a local Latine business in the city today. Or other immigrant run businesses.

Hearing from a few folks now that five protesters have been taken into federal custody.

Last few days people I haven’t spoken to in a while have msged me about ICE in their communities like Belmont Cragin and Franklin Park. I’m struck how so many of my childhood and HS friends are intimately impacted by the presence of ICE. We are threaded in the fabric of Latine immigrant Chicago.

I hate telling this story, but when tear gas is in the news... telling always feels importantm Tear gas is an abortifacient. When I was tear gassed, we were trying for a baby. The following day, I bled in a way I never have before. Like no period of my life before or since. Horror movie stuff.

Around half the crowd dispersed after that gas volley. Folks have regrouped now. ICE still on the roof, eyeing protesters. Chanting, "you're on the wrong side! You're on the wrong side!"

This guy with a "LICK MY BUTTHOLE FEDS" sign has been standing on top of his car this whole time. Confirmed at least one protester snatched by ICE in the chaos.

People have been outside all day and night so far. Sending care & protection. Chicago forever.

They’ve fired a whole lot of pepper balls at us. Multiple people hit, including one struck in the head. They’re charging the crowd and seizing people outside Broadview. The air is barely tolerable from all the fumes.

Saw on Ald Gil Villegas page that ICE was seen at the Central Park Fresh Market on Grand and Division and two people were detained this afternoon. The weight of potentially not even being able to go get groceries because community members may be taken.

My sister was driving around Hermosa and she says normally packed parking lots are empty, businesses empty. Our Latine immigrant community is being driven away from the public eye due to fear.

So many sightings in far out burbs today that can't be confirmed without photos. Round Lake, Lake Zurich, Mundelein. We believe most are likely bona fide, but obviously can't verify without photos. No idea if these are ending in arrests and we may never know.

It's been another morning of terror in Chicagoland. ICE is snatching people across burbs + city. More cars abandoned on the side of the road, & more day laborers disappeared. A van rolls into the Broadview "processing facility." After gates close, agents move 3 men in shackles into the building.

in wheaton, illinois, this morning— it appears bystanders helped chase off this crew of ice agents, who had boxed in a person's car outside a convenience store. multiple people showed up and recorded the interaction. after a brief back-and-forth with agents, the feds got in their cars and left.

Note: 37th and Ashland is pretty far in compared to where we've seen them all week. It may be an anomaly but Pilsen and Bridgeport need to be on high alert for a multitude of reasons.

Two friends told me they live within blocks or houses from where Silverio Villegas Gonzalez was killed. Both expressed how their community is quiet, peaceful, and full of hard working people. And that this has hit hard. Terrible for the family and for the rest of the community.

Sounds great, governor! Meanwhile, in Chicago, here's the papers you need with you if you want to access the city's central neighborhoods via car this weekend. Oh, and non-residents aren't allowed. Roadblocks and checkpoints entirely put together by city officials, no federal meddling necessary.

Over at 31st + Cicero, in Cicero. This strip of big box retail has been a hotspot all week. Some men here keeping watch tell us they just saw one man taken by four ICE agents. Like other arrests, it happened very quickly. They were out here early stalking their target, they tell us.

Screaming into the void here—none of this is slowing down. Rapid response in the burbs is thin. If arrests of vulnerable people happen and aren't documented or called in, no one will learn about them. Unconfirmed for now but we heard they were crawling Lake Country last night as well.

Immigrants make up about 22% of Chicago's population, according to new Census data. That count was the highest in Chicago since 2006. It bucks the trend of a slow but relatively steady decline over the past two decades.
