The deduction is worth at most a little under $20k per captain at the top marginal tax rate (I'd guess not many are!). So this estimate of 150-160 eligible captains means Murkowski is throwing 17m people off Medicaid and adding $5t to the national debt for, at most, $3m in tax breaks for Alaskans.
