Anyway, I read all of these anti-AI posts in academia as love letters to our disciplines. And that, at least, gives me joy in a weary world. So thank you.

You know what would be cool? If some of these guys tried to replace the internet with a simple-answers machine where they control what's inside, how you access it, and what it's allowed to say. I can't imagine any problems with that! Maybe we should use their output to build all future software?

What’s really amazing about vibe-coding is how people are replacing programming languages which are strictly deterministic with human speech which is highly ambiguous and expect programming to be faster and better.

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone - tech is now more expensive - you cannot trust most media of reality anymore - programs barely function - energy prices - literal psychosis - your voice can be literally stolen for evil - more spyware but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’

it's wild how the positive use cases are like "save 5 minutes reading a long doc" and "write a generic email faster" and the negative use cases are "get encouraged to dive deeper in psychosis, misogyny, or suicidal thoughts" and we're still on the fence about overall value

last week i remembered that macOS lets you set your own icons and that *I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine, so here's a thread of the 16 new icons i've made so far i really forgot how fun it was to just sit down and make art for myself :')

Remember - if you're financially in a position to do so, skip the
#BlackFriday
deals online from big companies and shop instead from small and local businesses. The big guns don't need your money, but for small traders it can be what keeps them going into 2026, so support your community instead.

It’s infuriating to me that I need to evaluate media to determine whether it’s AI generated now. The great “time saver” technology wastes incalculable time and energy for people who want to retain their grasp on reality

imagining a future where orgs/people with morals and spines who build stuff for actual people instead of someone at the end of a b2b supply chain start to really thrive. calm apps that do their job well and fuck off. less focus on growth. more human touches. no selling of souls to vc.

I will remind folks those images of Nazi book burnings aren't burning just any books. They're burning the library of Magnus Hirschfeld; a gay, Jewish doctor who created an institute dedicated to LGBTQ sex education and healthcare. And a man who pioneered gender affirming care surgeries.

Online age verification is not like "showing ID to buy alcohol" because a) the liquor store doesn't get to scan your ID and store a digital copy of it forever in a database that will inevitably get hacked b) you don't have to show ID to go to the library because they have cocktail recipe books

‘Vibe coding’ as a phrase is embarrassing to me. In an industry where the bar was already very low, it suggests we can care even less. It’s another step towards enshittification. The only way to make great software is to truly reason about the code and systems. There are no shortcuts.
