I can’t explain why, but when it’s snowy or slushy, like it is right now, walking like an AT-AT walker, where you lift your whole foot off the ground and then plant it down all at once, seems to work better for not slipping, if you go slow. The downside is that it makes walking very tiring

This is a fantastic article. I typically tend to read these with an eye towards fantasy worldbuilding and providing a grounded 'feel' for the world, but this article is excellent for challenging our long-held assumptions of what we *think* the peasantry is like. It's well worth the read.
