I started reading The Dispossessed by Ursula K Le Guin this week and so far it's a banger. It's a sci fi story that talks about capitalism, hierarchy, and social issues in really interesting ways.

I think Godot going the NetBSD route and banning AI for copyright reasons is the best way to go right now. Sure we can't detect/prevent higher quality AI contributions but we can still be against them and I think the Godot community would be more happy with that.

Yeah Godot is currently allowing AI code and I'm not saying coding with AI in its current form is ethical but there isn't really a way to stop AI code from getting into our open source projects. People will fail to disclose using AI in PRs and third party dependencies regardless of the policy.

I hate it but software/society is at the point where entirely avoiding supporting AI created things is becoming less practical. It's getting to "There's no ethical use of software under capitalism" levels but that statement always had truth to it.

There is unfortunately no ethical consumption under capitalism and while we can try to lessen our negative impacts, the fundamental issue is still capitalism itself.

I was worried about the VR game industry because of the price hikes, industry shutdowns, and project cancellations but I think this pullback from large companies actually creates a hole in the market that indies who are passionate about VR could fill. The VR players still exist and want new games.

I'm so excited for how good the future of FOSS game development looks. The biggest issue will probably be AI slop contributions but I think that can be mitigated with a highly engaged community and other countermeasures. I love being part of an open software community that benefits everyone.

I think most people who haven't released their first game and are still learning how to do that probably shouldn't expect to make any money from their game for their own mental health and motivation. The money is not as important as learning and developing yourself anyway.

I've been bouncing around projects the last week being super indecisive but I think I have a plan figured out. I'm going to learn C# Godot development and how to 3D model low poly stuff in Blender by making a little 3D platformer.

We need source control where the version history is depicted in terms of time traveling and parallel universes. It could have bowling alley style animations with blowing up branches or bringing alternate history changes into the current branch with a merge.

The thing that I think trips our capitalist systems up the most is when we get oligarchs influencing the politicians to change the rules that are supposed to keep them in check. As long as we still have a system that is capable of creating oligarchs, they'll game the system eventually.

Saw a skeet earlier about apparently needing to use an external add-on to convert CSG (constructive solid geometry) instances in Godot to actual mesh instances. You don't (anymore), it's built in! Select the parent CSG node and press the button that appears above the viewport. #godot #godotengine

I like working though and I'd do it even if it wasn't necessary and I think many people would because it's fulfilling to have purpose in life. I like to learn and grow as a person and see what I'm capable of and express myself. AI threatens that purpose so I won't be using it in my games.

It's really weird to have a PR person interrupt a game dev on a technical question but I think the reason was because the question insinuated that LLM scripts were being written as well and that the use of LLM goes further than the standard AAA canned "visual aids" or concept art AI asset response.

I play league with my friends about once a week and it's the only thing stopping me from fully switching to Linux so I think I'm just going to finally just dual boot Linux Mint or something. It'll be awesome for my game to be designed primarily for Linux anyway. #YearOfTheLinuxDesktop
