We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

This framing is especially foul because statistically, most minors are groomed by family members or other people in positions of authority, not just random strangers Making it taboo for adults to ever speak to a child that isnt theres will, if anything, only make abuse easier to hide

The obvious answer to this is "where possible, ensure that the accommodations necessary for disabled people are part of the default, not a separate thing it is necessary to qualify for." Like, we don't police people on whether they're "allowed" to use a ramp, we just put ramps alongside stairs.

I would sooner a million people somehow preposterously fake being disabled and get help than one disabled person go without because of concerns about fakes.

while its scary that US politicians are trying to fast track so bogus "child online safety" bills at once, I think their behavior belies the fact that they are aware this is a fight they can lose but we have to fight them. get friends and family involved.
