In Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, placeable UI elements are unlocked as the game progresses. While the game tries to prevent clutter, with intentionally bad placing it is possible to cover the entire screen in UI, making the game look like a parody of bad interface design.

I wish people who did subtitles for Korean shows weren't as literal. Like, they keep the nuna and oppa and you could say it's important, but then they constantly talk to the third person to people right in front of them, which doesn't translate and just sounds less respectful.

Stop fucking writing about what racist assholes are doing in games, it just gives them visibility and legitimacy holy shit. Clearly no one cared about the game, and people are just mutually trolling each other, and it's not even an interesting point about steam moderation.

“negative” criticism is just as much participation in a marketing machine as “positive” criticism. Marketing already decided the topic and convinced you it was important enough to talk about. If you’re still talking about X on cue, you’re still inside the machine.

Honestly, anyone who cares about games should hate realistic lighting. I'd do the meme, but imo it's supposed to be at least a bit ironic, and here "no real world use" would be 100% serious. I don't think anyone could name 10 game that have a reason to do it.

I really hope the people who think a Krafton game selling is bad for Krafton are very well organised and ready to stop anyone from buying the game once it reaches 12M (around the supposed amount where Krafton would be the most in the red, assuming 100% of that 250M bonus is tied to sales/profit)

I think this was a pretty good video, and I've been thinking about the idea of "friendslop" in parallel to coverage and review scores (which rewards functional games). So far it very much supports this, so if you hate the term friendslop, imo you're gonna have to put your money where your mouth is.

I'll just never understand this. It's wild that it's acceptable for Nintendo to hide who's developing their first and second party games. Yeah this might be the first interesting current gen title, but idk how you can cover a game without knowing who's making it. And then it becomes news? Insane.

A "piece that was killed" is something we hear over and over again working with press promoting Dreams on a Pillow, not just now but across the years. In some cases the content had been fully written & was pulled right before or even after publishing. In others, it never was allowed past concept.

Funny how everything Patrick Willems says in next month's video is also relevant to the majority of the top 100 games on metacritic. The very sad part is that none of those movies would get anywhere close to this.

It hurts reading "Much of Zero Parades is good enough that it deserves to be written about on its own terms" on Jank, not just because it's like their only righ-as-embargo-ended review but also because it echoes that IGN video that said "if we don't talk about it it's probably because it's not good"

This is the second time today I'm seing the comparison between ZA/UM and Annapurna and it makes me feel insane. I've never understood why people thought (specifically in the case of Annapurna, as if other publishers were different) that a rich asshole funding art was a bad thing.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN AUTEUR THEORY It's art of course there are people who made that art. When one person lived a universe for half his life, saying "auteur theory is BS the person who fixed the UI bugs is just as responsible for the thing you like" isn't just insane, it's acting like art doesn't exist

I can't help but think the idea that console are getting so expensive people won't but them anymore is complete BS. The most expensive and fastest selling console from Nintendo proved millions of people were happily spending 500€ to play the latest Mario Kart for 15 hours and nothing else ever.
