i was an enterprising little asshole and would ask to return/swap a game for something else if i didn't like it fairly immediately because i knew i was only going to get so many games and i wanted to maximize their impact by getting ones i was far more certain to like.

we really need to make it more socially acceptable to not like a piece of art or media for like, structural or aesthetic or narrative reasons... and not because there's some great ideological current behind it that represents or embodies all the ills of an entire generation or society.

whenever i do check on twitter at this point, the funniest things i see are these totally antisocial doomer takes about art that seem to go viral over there constantly now. they're like "Neutral Milk Hotel was an op. all millennials and gen z have failed to make worthwhile art and should be gassed."

I do not think you should screenshot a bunch of trans women who were mean to you and post them to your 100k+ followers. Especially not on TDoV, and especially not in the current political climate (where trans people are actively being removed from society)

the more we trans people are systematically shut out of mainstream media, the louder we're going to be everywhere else. this will either lead cis people to having a greater understanding of our lives or it will lead them to conclude we need to be exterminated. and that's kind of where we're at now.

happy day of not making it so all trans people continually have to answer for it every single time some high profile person has some trans people who are probably in a shit situation be mean to them online

amusing myself thinking about what it would look like if the Democrats suddenly shifted course back to doing 2016-style pandering to queer people, except just for zoomers. furry vtuber breakbeat campaign videos. "right now politics are in a LIMINAL SPACE... and we can't find an EXPLOIT out of it!"

When I started in internet music, the stuff that Liz had already published was so uniquely creative and playful; extremely mystifying and motivating for me Now it's 23 years later, I've been radicalized in no small part by her writing, and I'm strongly recommending her new record without hesitation

in America it's still legal to send kids off to a camp to torture them for smoking weed, for not doing well enough in school, for talking back to their shitty parents or whatever. that's the baseline, before you even get to a murderous reactionary panic around trans folks

also in my opinion there's probably no going back in the short term in terms of trans visibility. we're going to be visible no matter what for the foreseeable future, it's just a matter if the experiences of individual trans people are actually visible or not. increasingly they're not.

happy give trans people money and jobs day. also visibility is okay if it's the kind where trans people get to speak for each other, and not the kind where other people get to speak about trans people.

Why are you mouthing respect and concern while your office takes no evident action to care for those who have been left in crisis by the discontinuation of care at facilities like NYU Langone? To be frank: what are you actually doing for us? Trans lives donβt need pretty words, they need ACTION.

i think most people know this but you really can't be doing this shit anymore especially if you're part of a queer community in a bigger city. having a few people do this to me when i moved across the country with no money to be closer to queer people really fucked me up for years.

Note that the workers who made Beast Breaker ARE getting rev-share on sales of the game on Steam, even though the studio shut down. Why? Because we had a union, and we negotiated for it.

always funny to me how older UK punk had bands that sound to me now just like kinda corny bar rock but had super scary fascist fanbases that rioted regularly whereas US punk had a lot of bands called "The Piss" that sound like one uninterrupted scream that are just some UCLA students goofing off

i've said this before, but music discourse is and has always been the most toxic form of online art discourse for me - more toxic than film, comics, videogames, etc. it's both the most insular and territorial while also sitting on top of this condescending supposed great font of inherited wisdom

i get annoyed re: discussions of Gen Z (or millennial) art & lack of novelty cuz there is a lot of newer art that is indisputably important but because it's buried in insularity & meme culture & because there's little to no cultural infrastructure anymore the narrative has formed that it means less

these are interesting thoughts i figured i'd share, tho not sure i agree: for me "genre" is something that serves a specific purpose for the music industry (e.g. to market to specific demographics), & because said industry has no use for 99.99% of music anymore it's hard to think in those terms now

Everyone who works for the NYT β including my many friends β should be incredibly embarrassed by this statement. The depths to which the NYT will go to back its agenda of challenging trans people's right to exist is horrifying, ongoing, and has caused very real and specific harms to trans people.

you are genuinely way more likely to glimpse at the future of music from looking at you and your friend's Bandcamp collections than you are from listening to anyone who works at an AI music company or has any kind of stake in an AI music company

a mid tier Guided By Voices song is better than what like 95% of songwriters who write for big major label acts (i.e. the people using Suno now) are capable of writing. there's never been a dearth of creativity: but there is dearth of actually creative people being broadly successful and celebrated.

i truly believe all of this is going to initiate a major wave of counter-culture as people increasingly turn to violently rejecting engaging with any mainstream culture that smells of AI, bizarre and fascist body standards, and just the general trappings of wealth, and all that represents.

my experience with the social media age has just been witnessing people failing to conceptualize that two ideas can be true at once over and over. there is a always rabid demand for one thing to be true to the exclusion of something else, and it never stops, and there is never any slowing it down.
