Moral Orel and the UK Office are both really bleak and edgelordy things that end in surprisingly heartfelt ways that pay off the premise much better than you'd expect. also both of these endings are Christmas-themed

What Doth Videogame? it's the question that haunts generations super stoked about this. it'll be a wide ranging talk about the role of videogames and art in general in the current hellscape and then a listening party/premiere of my album "Saint Elizabeth" that i, uh, need to finish by then.

over time i've realized that i am barely able regulate my own thoughts on any given day, so i don't know how i would think that i would have the capacity to tell other trans or queer people how to think or feel or react to a given situation. so many people coming from radically different places

tbh a lot of intra-trans/queer community conflicts come down to some sort of class dynamics, and specifically between respectable bigger platform media types and insular online weirdos who have their own specific thing - groups with much different theories of existence - intersecting chaotically

just said this in replies but: the nihilistic school shooter misanthropy that dominates the right wing now was always extremely present online, from my experience. you could not step anywhere without running into it. it's not new: it has been a massive problem with internet culture for a long time

read someone say recently that the internet has moved away from group participation to passive consumption. i think that's broadly true - but also feel that anyone believing that the internet of 1999-2013 was broadly this bastion of radical possibility was not spending much time on the internet then

i genuinely promised myself and other people that i'd be spending early this year working on creative projects instead of on here so i just don't have time for the current insanity. the existence of it is designed to terrorize and disempower as much as everything else it's doing and i'm just over it

Screaming "wtf" and waiting for a spontaneous uprising is going to discourage you. There won't be a spontaneous uprising. That's just not where the people are at. Organize for the long term. Build community. Build resilience. Have a strategy for whatever corner of this thing you're working on.

This war is completely illegitimate: 60% of Americans disapprove of going to war with Venezuela—74% disapprove war without Congressional approval. Only 19% are in favor. The people oppose it. Our representatives didn’t approve it. Trump should be removed for this unconstitutional war.

i do appreciate how much past US coups in South America are an understood mainstream talking point now in even many centrist lib spaces, in spite of what world the people at the top think they're living in. the pundit class seem increasingly the only ones still super invested in empire.

The 70s. Termite Terrace is closed. Its residents either dead, retired, or moved on to other projects. But their creations, the Looney Tunes, lived on in some form or another to become inescapable cultural icons. This is the story of Bugs Bunny and pals and their legacy.

if i'm overly sanctimonious about the need for people to get behind positive alternatives on all kinds of scales - personal, artistic, political, cultural etc it's because i've watched so much cynicism and apathy creep into so many spaces. people still don't realize how little they have to lose.

many career things people do that's "just what you have to do now" exist because of a deeply diseased and parasitic social/cultural/political ecosystem. all of that will have be reconsidered under a better ecosystem. the people who benefit from it the most now will be the least able to do that.

i think there truly is nothing to say about AI anymore. if you need to convince someone in person the inherent problems with AI, that's fine. but the lines are so clear now. i want to see people's positive alternatives to it, and what kind of world they want to exist inside. now's the time for that

my main worry about this current moment is that - while calling out the lack of basic morality of the wealthy/the far right is obviously important - there's still comparatively little energy being spent towards getting behind and embracing some sort of positive alternative

looks like these headlines were deliberately misleading and about MTV discontinuing music only channels in some international markets. but MTV as a venue for music videos has been basically long dead for a much longer time, so all i can say is... long live the music video.

tbh just going to post music videos i like today because independent of MTV losing every vestige of the music part, we don't value the art of the music video as much as we used to. not exactly a huge Madonna fan but i love this video/song

think i've said it before but the You Must Remember This series on erotic 80's and 90's movies and how they echoed underlying ideologies and anxieties of the time was really essential - put so much media from those decades i'd absorbed into perspective

if it feels like art is especially meaningless right now in its social power or impact it's because we live in a society that ultimately chose profit, the pursuit of fame, the pursuit of material wealth... over meaning. embracing an alternative means reckoning with how much has been chipped away at

related to this: the idea that making art has to be a professional enterprise (and bring everything that comes with that) is bad in many ways... but also, expecting people to make no money making art and just be content with that is very bad for art too.
