always funny to me how older UK punk had bands that sound to me now just like kinda corny bar rock but had super scary fascist fanbases that rioted regularly whereas US punk had a lot of bands called "The Piss" that sound like one uninterrupted scream that are just some UCLA students goofing off

"Lynchian art pop" is definitely a descriptor i'm going to adopt to describe my music with now. this is the value of having other people write about your music

hi, cis folks in NY state! was today a protest day for you? feel recharged? want to take 5-10 minutes & do another achievable thing? the 2 biggest private hospitals in NYC ended trans youth care in violation of state & city law as an act of overcompliance to trump. tap into the thread to help. ⬇️

i've said this before, but music discourse is and has always been the most toxic form of online art discourse for me - more toxic than film, comics, videogames, etc. it's both the most insular and territorial while also sitting on top of this condescending supposed great font of inherited wisdom

i get annoyed re: discussions of Gen Z (or millennial) art & lack of novelty cuz there is a lot of newer art that is indisputably important but because it's buried in insularity & meme culture & because there's little to no cultural infrastructure anymore the narrative has formed that it means less

these are interesting thoughts i figured i'd share, tho not sure i agree: for me "genre" is something that serves a specific purpose for the music industry (e.g. to market to specific demographics), & because said industry has no use for 99.99% of music anymore it's hard to think in those terms now

Everyone who works for the NYT — including my many friends — should be incredibly embarrassed by this statement. The depths to which the NYT will go to back its agenda of challenging trans people's right to exist is horrifying, ongoing, and has caused very real and specific harms to trans people.

you are genuinely way more likely to glimpse at the future of music from looking at you and your friend's Bandcamp collections than you are from listening to anyone who works at an AI music company or has any kind of stake in an AI music company

a mid tier Guided By Voices song is better than what like 95% of songwriters who write for big major label acts (i.e. the people using Suno now) are capable of writing. there's never been a dearth of creativity: but there is dearth of actually creative people being broadly successful and celebrated.

i truly believe all of this is going to initiate a major wave of counter-culture as people increasingly turn to violently rejecting engaging with any mainstream culture that smells of AI, bizarre and fascist body standards, and just the general trappings of wealth, and all that represents.

my experience with the social media age has just been witnessing people failing to conceptualize that two ideas can be true at once over and over. there is a always rabid demand for one thing to be true to the exclusion of something else, and it never stops, and there is never any slowing it down.

tbh i've always been a bit annoyed by Americans on here in particular going on for ages about how the US is uniquely evil and unredeemable. it's not like most of us have ever had much control over where these things have gone. that's kinda been the whole problem to begin with.

it is outright terrifying to watch up close — Sulzberger's fixation has had a *tangible effect on the life of every single trans person in this country,* his stooges are repeatedly cited in courtrooms, and I have the sense that most cis people are just ignoring this, hand-waving it.

the speedrunning community was as toxic and as much of a boys club (if not more) as many others not too long ago, and the transition to it being a more queer-positive and inclusive event wasn't inevitable. GDQ's shift has been really meaningful and it's a lesson for what a lot of other spaces can be

okay i'm going to do this - with ONE important caveat: i stick primarily to the most esoteric stuff i own. that means i'm going to avoid games by friends unless i have something interesting to say about them. also: me only playing the demo, or only playing for 10 minutes still counts as "played"

even as a 38 year old trans woman, part of me thinks that the war on trans people is at some level truly about a war on the young. both directly (trans kids) and indirectly (higher gender fluidity and rates of acceptance for trans people for younger people)

here's a couple tips for our friend Will so he doesn't go down the Chris Crawford path: 1) you can't "solve" interactivity. it's a toolset, not a problem to be solved 2) there is a great deal we don't understand about the human mind. so please don't pretend you're presenting us The Objective Reality

I've been working on this piece for a few months, and I won't lie it's hurt to go from hearing the suffering inflicted by this transphobic theocracy to seeing progressives sing its praises. The bishops' ban is the most extensive trans healthcare ban in the country. It deserves way more attention.
