My recent win is reducing the runtime for the python version of my land-surface model by 2/3. This was mostly the result of reducing external decencies, unnecessary calculations, and re-structuring model logic. Now, mind you, it still does not always give physical answers. But I can be wrong faster.

I'm amplifying Jared here to say that therapy and medication have helped me through anxiety and depression and circumstance over the past six years. These aren't magic wands that can bend reality. However, I'm undoubtedly better equipped to handle the imperfect than I would be in their absence.

Unbelievable footage from NOAA’s Hurricane Hunters inside the eye of Hurricane Erin. Simply incredible.

There it is #HurricaneErin achieved #Category5 status as of 11:20 AM EDT (August 16th). It is further noted that between the original advisory and the update (a mere 20 minutes), pressure fell another 6 mb. #HurricaneSeason2025

Erin's central pressure was in the 990s this time yesterday, and it's now in the 920's heading for the teens. This will make Erin the fastest deepening Atlantic hurricane before Sept 1st. Beating Emily 2005, by a lot.

Erin's currently estimated increase from 75 kt to 130 kt intensity (maximum sustained wind anywhere in the hurricane) in **12 hours** is a 55-kt change exceeded by only three Atlantic hurricanes in the past 50 years: 2005 Wilma (75 kt!), 2007 Felix (60 kt), and 2024 Milton (60 kt).

Another obvious sign #Erin is rapidly intensifying this morning is the temperature obs on board the NOAA-P3 aircraft. The rapidly rising temps in the #eye create a dewpoint depression (i.e, clearing). Aided by increased eye subsidence as the #major #hurricane mixes dry stratosphere above.

Excited for tomorrow's launch of the NISAR satellite which will provide global information about water in its various forms. I have been working with NASA/JPL scientists on the ground verification instrumentation in Oklahoma for the past few years. The launch will take place in India at 6:00am CST.
