Urban space designed before the dawn of the automobile is the best urban space. It is people oriented, vibrant, thriving and livable and often enriches the environment with a high level of detail.

Building an ambitious, high quality bicycle path - and seeing it become popular - does not mean that you are "safe". In any sense of that word. Read the whole thread, it's very precise.

I see very few cyclists, and very few intersections. I have no idea of the general cycling network, or how this bike path matches the transport needs of the inhabitants of Shanghai. But this is impressive. Centralized management has its advantages.
