Apparently the original editorial concept for this art was Bumblebee v2 (AKA Goldbug) & Tommy Oliver v2 (AKA White Ranger) versus Storm Shadow v2, and evil SG Goldbug accidentally got drawn, but I like how it was already fucked from the beginning because Storm Shadow v2 is from his heroic Joe era.

I've been reading the Marvel UK Action Force comic, and it's fascinating how the weekly run is incredibly tame violence-wise, moreso than Hama's US material, but then once it becomes AF Monthly, you immediately start getting stuff like "Storm Shadow intimidates a man into committing suicide."

Anyway, now they've announced figures of both Action Man and Lara Croft, I think it's clear which 1990s British icon they need to make next: That's right, G.I. Joe Classified Series Mr. Blobby.

I really love that, with the Joe logo on that gear, this is properly "Lara Croft has joined G.I. Joe", like in the old days, versus just presenting this as a normal Lara figure that's incidentally being released under the G.I. Joe brand.

Classified's two OCs for 2026 really serve as a perfect illustration of the aesthetic difference between G.I. Joe and Cobra, lol. The new Joe is "what if a soldier was also a cowboy?" and then the new Cobra is a garish freak dressed for a Halloween party at a sex club. (This is why Cobra is better.)

I was already in for Mistress Armada by default for the Cobra girlies shelf, but I think I'm gonna grab Synapse too, to use specifically as a villain for Classified Action Man - he's the perfect kind of hideous garish freak for that!

One of my fav. bits of Beast Machines trivia is that Strika was almost certainly based on the WIP toy design that was ultimately released as Blastcharge - the S2 writers' notes describe her as a segmented Humvee with turret weaponry, which is very specific but describes Blastcharge perfectly!

Caught up on Cyberworld over the past few days - it really is good fun! Genuinely very cool the effort it's going to to maintain ongoing character arcs and plot mysteries while working within the mandated format of "the Transformers do a Gamer Challenge every week".

There's been some furore recently about another project, which coincidentally kicked off around the same time this one did, to "remaster" STC using AI on the old, low-res scans, but if that sentence alone isn't enough to put you off, I think this comparison kinda shows why you should keep clear.

It will always remain very funny to me that IDW1 birthed "Drift, the white saviour of Space Japan" and it was in fact Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction that rehabilitated the character as "maybe he should just be an actual Japanese guy?"
