Music and church and cooking and Georgia football. Sometimes politics. Dogs if y’all act right.
I’m alive, just preserving my sanity by staying away from most social media.

I was talking about this last night. Does any rural person think Musk gives a crap about farms or understands farm subsidies?

Hardly new info, but BSky should know: Warsaw's water quality is monitored by eight clams with magnets attached to their shells. If contamination in the water causes the clams to close, the magnets trigger an alarm and shut off the city's water supply. Thank you, little guardian molluscs. 🧪🌏🚰

It’s been surreal to watch the people who taught me not to worship anything but Jesus totally abandon the most basic tenants of Christianity in favor of worshipping the crudest and most basic version of an authoritarian. Turns out the idol wasn’t grades or a boyfriend, it’s always power.

The federal freeze on grant funding is looking very, very bad in Atlanta. Georgia relies on federal funding for essentially *all* of its spending on housing support, and most of its spending on homelessness, mental heath and substance abuse treatment. Providers are locked out of their accounts.

I know folks think we're being hysterical about the Laken Riley Act and Trump's EO's but ICE just did a raid in Newark where they detained undocumented residents as well as citizens (including a veteran), without producing a warrant. 1/

It may be a good time to recall that almost 100 yrs ago wealthy businessmen hatched a scheme to weaken progressive Christianity because the social gospel wasn’t conducive to corporate profits. They poured $$$ into Chr orgs that preached a different tune: the gospel of free market capitalism.

Mercy IS actually radical if you haven’t been shaping your life around the example and teaching of Christ and have only been pursuing self gratification. So, ya know.

Teen movies led me to believe that if you bullied the nerd, they might end up being rich and cool one day and you’d be sorry. Apparently they end up rich losers flirting with fascism.

I’ve been traveling all day and came home with an awful headache. Advil didn’t fix it. Water didn’t fix it. Relaxing on the couch didn’t fix it. What did? An inhuman amount of Mexican food.

I feel like I pretty successfully paired my wine with my food tonight. I’ve been trying to learn enough to be able to make educated guesses, but Italian wine is still pretty new to me. The menu description told me just enough to make the right choice.

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs. Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

Health insurance industry PR is working overtime right now diverting blame to physicians for claim denials and rising costs. I feel compelled to remind everybody that Optum (UHC) is the largest employer of physicians in the US. We have never had less power in healthcare than we do right now.

Insurers must spend 80-85% of premiums on care by law. "But big insurers have figured out if they also become health care providers—by buying physician practices, clinics, and pharmacy benefit managers—they can meet that threshold by paying themselves and avoiding payment for their customers’ care."
