The scenes in London today are deeply concerning. A far-right conman, aided by tech and media billionaires, managed to mobilise 100,000 people. Including thugs who attacked police and counter-protesters. Sending my solidarity to everyone who is feeling anxious right now. You’re not alone.

We stand in solidarity with people seeking safety and against acts of violence and intimidation taking place in parts of the country. Times are tough but people fleeing war and persecution are not to blame for Scotland’s problems. Everyone deserves to be safe and feel like they belong.

It is worth remembering that various governments over the years, even when claiming to have brought in progressive legislation for trans people, have often only done so after a European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling. The Gender Recognition Act (2004) is one such piece of legislation.

Personally, I think this is a must. People need reassurance that they are safe at work.

The end of peak rail fares will dramatically reduce costs for rail users. However, we can do more. Restoring rail services across the North East, to Peterhead and Fraserburgh, will boost our economy and help reduce pollution. It must be a priority for the next Scottish government.
