Watched and really enjoyed SECRETS & LIES. I feel like Mike Leigh scripts are in the category where if you pay attention you learn for the whole duration. The technique is so sharp while still providing so much room for the actors to work and play.

It's easy to mistake "we can't predict the future" for "anything can happen", but they are definitely not the same thing. Anything can happen in the sense that we can fuck around, and then we can find out. And sometimes we'll find out something good!

On the subject of why we can't simply fix everything by way of vigorous executive action next time we take power, the answers are so obvious it's embarrassing to explain them to adults. But I think the key thing is we don't know what we can do. The lesson of this era is humility.

Quoting not in the spirit of dunking or argumentativeness, but I've been thinking about this all day, and I've seen arguments like this before, and I feel like it's worth noting that I can't remember a time when people didn't believe this, and it's hard to imagine a situation where they wouldn't.

You know what I love? A workplace situation where someone emails you about an URGENT thing that needs to be dealt with NOW, but then it turns out that they need to provide you with more information before you can resolve the issue, and then suddenly it seems to become much, much less urgent.
