It’s worth the read. I like it because they talk about the underlying mechanisms behind the headlines we see about Trump’s targeting of groups. Documenting and understanding such mechanisms will be really valuable when we start to rebuild, that is, if we choose to rebuild at all. I hope we do.

I think Black Reconstruction by Du Bois is best read with others. A few years ago, I gave a presentation for the Schomburg Center. My focus was on what PIC abolitionists can learn about how change happens by studying Black Reconstruction. We even created a little guide to share with participants.

Now out in the American Criminal Law Review: "Big Box Carceralism." I trace the legal history of the retailer-backed campaign for bans on "organized retail crime." Retailers lied and fearmongered about the data, pushed bills through ALEC, and all to get slightly more specific conspiracy statutes. 🧵

This meant immigrants no longer needed a smuggler. Instead, they just had to register at the camps, and give their biometric data. Unbeknownst to them, it went right into a CBP database, part of what Honduras did to earn $1.6 billion in aid from the US between FY 2015 and 2024.
