Saw this piece today, and the "paying private firms" things always sets off alarm bells for me. Unsurprisingly we have almost no concrete data on which systems use private vs. self-provided food, but it looks like CA, NY, and TX all self-provide. I bet > 50% of PPL in prison get public food.

This meant immigrants no longer needed a smuggler. Instead, they just had to register at the camps, and give their biometric data. Unbeknownst to them, it went right into a CBP database, part of what Honduras did to earn $1.6 billion in aid from the US between FY 2015 and 2024.
