Finally got some photos of Australia’s “blue ant”, Diamma bicolor, which is not an ant at all but a shockingly large metallic blue thynnid wasp, wingless and solitary, that hunts mole crickets. Been meaning to shoot this thing for years.

The great #hammerhead is easy to ID due to large falcate pelvic fins and a huge, pointed first dorsal fin. The head has a relatively straight anterior margin with a central indentation. This is one of the largest macropredatory #sharks, often 3 - 4 metres long but occasionally exceeding 5 metres.

A dusky #shark, perhaps the largest carcharhinid. This is a pretty generic looking requiem shark, without features allowing an easy ID. Many photographs show dark tips and edges to the posterior fins, especially the caudal fin. Note the white front edge to the lower lobe of the caudal fin.

Spent #FossilFriday tweaking my Anchiornis colour reconstruction. The black+white+red intepretation does entirely match the melanosome data recorded for this species, as there's evidence of phaeomelanin (= rufous hues) on the arm, and lots of grey across the body. #paleoart #sciart #paleontology

Can finally share this #watercolor #paleoart I did a few years back of the “King of the Riverside” I did for the new paper by @melanieduring.com which shows that in Hell Creek there were giant Prognathodon mosasaurs that were living in freshwater (not just visiting)

Look at this cat. She's called Mocha and, while she's very friendly, we argue over whether she has two or three brain cells.

While the paper hasn't come out just yet, the news certainly has. Proud to announce our discovery of color patterning in a sauropod dinosaur. Will go in depth tomorrow.

We can all relax now, ROM put out some press photos over the weekend! Basically, the space between the Jurassic/hadrosaur hall and the T. rex/Cenozoic hall has been opened up, and now houses the real Zuul fossil plus the cast Gorgosaurus vs Zuul created for a temporary exhibit in 2019.
