5. We often focus on the 1955 event of Mrs Parks refusing to vacant her seat, but she had another reason. Rosa Parks knew James F Blake. All the Black people in Montgomery knew Blake. He was a particularly nasty bus driver who regularly disrespected Black patrons

4. Bus drivers and train conductors were all but deputized police forces. Their word was law. They carried guns. Bus drivers had actually killed returning Black WWII veterans for simply wearing their uniforms in public. They could physically remove anyone they wanted for any reason

There's another dimension to this Rosa Parks story that you may not know. This is where the story most often gets mis-narrated. The bus driver is often left out as a faceless entity and passive part of the story, but he is important to this story. James F Blake adds some much needed context 🧵
