The 2022 Dartmouth kidical mass has a special place in my heart. It was our first ride. We rolled up with a trailer we'd borrowed from someone we'd just met (thanks @envirojen.bsky.social !), test rode a "stranger's" e-cargo bike, and totally changed our bike trajectory

I want to speculate traffic, and Mayor Fillmore, were stopped on Barrington. Which gave the opportunity to snap a heavily-zoomed photo of the buses stuck midblock on Morris. It was frosh move in day. There were a zillion out of town families trying to navigate the city

Here’s an attempt to show it better if anyone is curious. (Sorry, the sticker makes it a bit hard to see!) The Heroclips go in front and back, (medium size seems to be perfect) with a bit of wiggle room for a larger tire. A simple strap & carabiner combo for the middle as a third point of contact.

A sentimental 🧵: We got a street tree late June 2019. The trees were dropped off, then planted the following day. I remember noting that our tree's thickest root jutted out sideways, not down into the root ball, and was lopped off short.

This “Making Connections” report that came out in 2014 talked about the ambitious goals of building a bike network in Halifax, and doubling mode share by 2026. Our network may not be done, but we are recording about 17.5 times as many people biking in the core of the city compared to 2018.

We went camping for a week We saw lots of solo self-propelled, self-directed kids. We saw lots of unattended phones charging in the bathrooms. We saw lots of unlocked bikes. We met our neighbours. My jaw literally dropped, it’s not an exaggeration to say as a cyclist one feels constantly like you will be hit by a car on the roads: Automobile association found that almost 10% of the time a cyclist crosses the road they have a potential conflict with a vehicle. Severity low/med just means 1/

The #Halifax bike lane motion was many things but it was such a waste of time. There are actual crises to be addressed. I dislike people wasting my time. I try to use my own time wisely, productively, and with fun. My biggest pet peeve is when people are late. Let's make better use of our time.

Yep. Same for kiddos biking to school. They grow up! The Halifax Urban Greenway was supposed to be finished before my first child learned to ride a bike. If built, she could be biking 4km to school every day. A total of 200m of it has been built since 2018 (and Mayor Fillmore opposed that bit!)
