When I went through training to work in a prison, we were told not to deploy pepper spray closer than, like 2 feet because of the risk of blinding someone. This canister is way more powerful. That pepper spray was essentially injected into the observer's skin.

Part of the issue is that those most actively protesting and leading mutual aid are women and gender non-conforming people. Both groups are illegible to many as protesters. This helps explain the invisibilization of current protests and resistance.

I am so unbelievably tired of people from outside the US asking why Americans don’t do something about all the shit that’s going on. We are trying. Many of us are protesting, contacting our representatives, donating to nonprofits/candidates, and sharing resources. I don’t know what else to do.

Folks just don’t understand the scales involved, too. The longest drive in France from end to end is something like 600 miles, where in the US it is something like 2800 miles. Much more difficult to get a bunch of people in one place, logistically.
