It's very easy: Just don't. The idea that Copilot or ChatGPT are suddenly essential tools is just buying into the corporate ad blitz. Games were made just fine (well, relatively) up through...what, 2023? 2024? They didn't suddenly become VITAL for budgets or design docs in the last 2-3 years.

Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things. Here’s a blurb on what I mean:

The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out. This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.

Working with artists is the greatest joy in any creative field. Making games is about communicating with expert artists across disciplines, and most importantly trusting them to execute the best version of what you want, not trying to get them to create the exact image you see in your head.

I used to catch myself saying "content creator" here and there even as an artist myself and while it had a bit of an icky feeling, I didn't think too much of it. With the advent of AI, though, I've been a lot more mindful of trying to avoid it for pretty much this reason

I've made it a personal goal to stop using the term "content" when referring to media made by artists. The word implies mass-produced filler and calling someone's hard work their "content" has started to feel kinda like an insult. Like human art made strictly for quick consumption
