I know a lot of our political press corps think of themselves as critical of Trump but they are as much a pillar of his cult as his actual supporter base, because they continuously reinforce the main tenet of Trumpism, that only Trump and his will matters, and our job is to watch him make decisions.

Yeah. The Senate funding isn't some huge policy win for Democrats—but it's the best available move to position themselves going forward, and it's a symbolic & tactical victory (and those things do matter) how they held out while Republicans and Trump caved.

This is mostly my take. I’ve seen some criticism I can buy into over the last day - should have made clear in his testimony that the DOJ policy is the only reason he didn’t indict, should have been rapid and forceful in refuting Barr’s mischaracterization of his conclusions, but the bulk holds.

Don’t disagree (would have been a reply but restricted). I was just responding to the idea that Mueller wasn’t to blame and agreeing with it. He did all the investigative work, gathered the evidence, tied a bow on it, and handed it to the incoming administration. He’s blameless.

And Garland. The Mueller Report covered multiple instances of obstruction where corrupt intent, nexus, and an overt act were all present. Some of those were within the statute of limitations when Garland took his post. He chose not to follow the bread crumbs Mueller left him.

When I think of the press saying things like “well at least Trump talks to us, unlike Obama who never acknowledged shouted questions” I want to point out that, pop mythology aside, maybe it’s because they do everything possible to make him sound reasonable and are constantly out to “get” Dems.

these are all choices that newspapers make and it's interesting to see which politicians they make one choice for and which they make other choices for.

It is *fascinating* to me how quickly some people have gone completely from “we all must work in the office! human collaboration is vital and only happens in person!” to “I can replace all these pesky people with chatbots!” Definitely some commentary there about our society and who gets to choose.
