Just another afternoon thinking about how Florida doesn’t have a state labor department (because Jeb Bush abolished it) and how the state’s minimum wage is basically left up to an honor system because the state takes little action to enforce it.

Florida lawmakers ignore attempt to reestablish a state labor department to take on wage theft — again
The AG's Office, the only state enforcement mechanism for Florida's minimum wage, recovered unpaid wages for exactly one person last year.

The BoT at Auburn shares a dream with Sal Khan, Bill Gates, David Coleman, Arne Duncan, & many more: that teachers become meat-puppets regurgitating a carefully-scripted curriculum of cruelty & capitalist apologia for which students pay a premium. It’s a stupid, impossible dream. And harmful.

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else. We mustn’t let this war do so.
