The real solution to helping historians do research is actually pretty simple: give archives more money. Money for conservation, preservation, storage (physical an digital), climate controlled facilities, and staff (paid at a living wage). You don't need LLMs, you need money.

Lots of people lost their jobs over this. Students lost badly needed resources. And the people who got fâd over were disproportionately already marginalized, underpaid & trying harder than they shouldâve had to just to do their jobs in environments that were uncaring at best if not outright hostile
