Also: zoning change's effects are incredibly context-dependent! So you could have overall no effects on housing supply from zoning changes, but still have major effects in certain places (e.g., where the housing market is strong). So national cross-sectional data only tells us so much.

NLG Chicago Denounces Violent Federal Law Enforcement Response to Protest in Broadview, IL (1/2) On Friday, federal agents significantly escalated their attacks on speech and people protesting at the now notorious ICE detention facility in suburban Broadview, IL.

These images bring up a lot of emotion. Paul Goyette was at Broadview most of Friday, documenting the continued violations of folks’ rights that occurred throughout the day—through tear gas, physical violence, and the continued militarized posture ICE agents took toward us.

🧵This is a serious use of force violation. The violent attack of this woman must be prosecuted by Chicago/Illinois for violation of state’s rights. I’m going to break this down. You see her blocking the ICE van. Agents violently push her to the ground. Then you see 1 guy target her & choke her.

Further update: Per a spokesperson with the People's Law Office, 10 people total were arrested during yesterday's protests at the Broadview, IL ICE facility, and all 10 have since been released. They clarify this includes both daytime and evening protest arrests.

ICE is violating article the U.N.'s "Mandela" rules for the minimum treatment of prisoners: "Pelayo said her dad described being held in a room with at least 150 other men as ICE officers constantly yell at them and call them slurs...detainees are only given food and water based on good behavior."
