This is a welcome and decent piece, but to my mind it dances around the central failing of the government rather than pinning it down. It's the politics. They are *terrible* at politics. Some great policies, some really important delivery, but utterly hopeless when it comes to the art of politics.

My argument isn't that Trump is the fault of the left, nor is it that the Democrats were right to appease Israel. It's that in the two-party democracy of the United States it is the responsibility of every decent person with a vote to support the least worst option, however unpalatable they are.

Morbidly fascinating responses to this showing how determined many on the left are to ignore how democracy works, to view their vote as an absolute rather than a compromise to find the least worst option available, then to absolve themselves from responsibility for failing to keep the worst guy out.
