I’m not comfortable with no questioning, no scrutiny and no stress testing of the policies proposed by Burnham until after he has the job. Especially added costs for a No 10 of the North. Surely costs and budgets must be examined and prioritised. Can he really get away with this?

I thought Burnham’s speech was ok, I even felt some of what he said was good and positive. His delivery is def better than Starmer’s. But I don’t trust him. So I don’t believe what he says. And so I dismissed it. All of it. And that’s a big problem.

Burnham has the whole of the UK to look after and resonate with. Not just the North. No PM has ever focused on just one area. This is nonsense. I can’t see how he can remotely undertake this job. He thinks locally. We need an international PM FFS

Keir Starmer braved the media every time. He took their barbed questions and answered them. I always admired that he did so with grace and an understanding that they were doing their job. And that he’d better have the answers. That’s fine by the wayside then

If I were a politician it would be more important for me to show loyalty to the person who put their trust in me and the electorate that did the same than compromise my values. I’m not sure many in Labour are going to come out of this debacle well.

Andy Burnham is clearly not a man who likes scrutiny. Don’t suppose he’ll like accountability much either. But he says it in a passionate way. So I suppose it’ll work out okay for him. No one needs talent if you’ve got passion.

The only thing Keir Starmer did wrong was put his trust into a dismal group of Labour MPs. The weakness we all have is believing people think like you do. They don’t. My contempt for the likes of Powell, Haigh, Turner, McDonnell et al knows no limits. Special place for Rayner in there

One last push of the petition for today! I was hoping to increase signatures by 10% today. So far we are up 9.1% on what we were when I first posted this morning - or 247 more signatures. Can we get another 25 or so this evening to top the target?

So it’s the Big Burnham reveal today. This five seconds as an MP setting out his stall. Ushered in by hundreds of MPs scared they might lose their jobs in 3 years. The result will almost definitely be losing their jobs within the next 12 months. And I cant feel remotely sorry

Lucy Powell would do well to understand Members hold her directly responsible for this Burnham coup. She has lost all rights to speak to the electorate about unity. She has lost all rights to speak kindly to Keir Starmer. She must be the most disliked person in the UK right now

Im bored already with all this posturing for jobs by MPs who had jobs and the Burnham ‘Look at me’ hourly videos. My membership stays for a few weeks just in case someone out there is brave enough to call this coup out and stand. But I have lost faith in most Labour MPs.Sadly

I didn't join Labour out of tribal loyalty. I joined because Keir Starmer offered competence, stability & a route back from Tory chaos & a Brexit I've always regretted. I'm left-leaning, not party-bound. If there's no continuity candidate, I struggle to see my future in Labour

The International Leaders have been unanimous in their praise and support for Keir Starmer. They could see clearly what he was achieving. Whilst Brits could see only the media’s distortion. We are corrupted by billionaires who don’t live here but earn their money here.

The Guardian has an article today stating that Dan Jarvis might only be Defence Secretary for a few weeks. So they’re still talking up a coronation of Burnham despite being told from the horses mouth that it is not going to happen. The Guardian, only fit for the bin nowadays

I think it will be brilliant if the Health Secretary and Defence Secretary make serious improvements within their briefs. I can honestly see both of them being outstanding and incredibly effective in their roles. Funny how life works out sometimes.

The real measure of a Leader is how they respond to challenges and difficult times. How, when their back is against the wall, they don’t run or hide. But face those challenges and deal with them. I applaud Keir Starmer.

David Hockney and I share a love of dachshunds. His drawings (in a book) is one of my treasured possessions. That’s not to say I don’t love all the other fabulous work. But the dachshunds are special. To me.

Yesterday was a grubby day. Weather was dire, Healey was a surprise. Cairns a disappointment. But today is another day. Jarvis is a perfect appointment. Murray shaping up well. I don’t feel the loss of yesterday. I feel we’ve gained.

I’m off on hols for two weeks, flying out tomorrow. You may not hear much from me. Just the heads up. Can’t believe I’m away for that by election. But that’s the way the cookie crumbles. I’ll be here today though :-)

I was sorry Streeting and now Healey resigned. Both did a good job whilst in post. But loyalty matters. A lot. I’m excited by Dan Jarvis’ appointment and 4 weeks in James Murray is looking like a solid choice. Onwards and upwards. The media will be livid.
