Bit of R&D today trying to recreate "Windows 95" style fog. Using a 256 colour palette (this is from Quake 1) with 32 steps of fog, each fogged colour is remapped back onto the original palette, which causes a kind of 'posterize' effect as the remapping choices dwindle. #gamedev

I seriously doubt reducing Steam's cut is going to lead to cheaper games. AAA will happily absorb the extra (and they are usually getting a better rate already.) But for smaller scale dev a difference of even 5-10% on what they get would be life-changing for all involved. That would be a big win.
