Well my game has enough new visual stuff that I figured it was time to throw together another crappy trailer. So here you go, it took me a whole less than an hour to make. Now back to actual indie game dev. Should I put it on Steam? Bearing in mind that my other trailers suck too.

I'm playing the Final Fantasy Tactics remake on my Thor. All previous attempts dating back to the PS1 I have bounced off this game, but this time I'm not. It's fun. The systems are so chunky and weird. The GBA version really smoothed it out. What do you MEAN my character can just leave bc of faith?

Here have this video from yesterday of the full ending sequence, if you manage to lose to the AI but them comboing you to death. Which really shouldn't be possible, but I'm sure someone out there could make it happen. Indie game dev is just assuming players will run into EVERYTHING.

I loved my N64 as a kid. But I realized as a teen that its library was absolutely miserable compared to something like the PS2. I then suffered through people acting like the N64 was better than it was in college due to nostalgia, and that continues today. I loved it, but it wasn't a good console.

Okay for the game's solitaire end screen, instead of forcing it to be a chonky 20 fps, I did it at a smooth 60 fps, and it feels much better, if less authentic to OG solitaire chonkiness. I'm probably going to leave this alone visually for now, and work on actually you know, hooking it up.

I had a dream last night about a survival game where you have to survive dinosaurs, but the dinosaurs were presented as we actually know they were scientifically instead of the "cooler" lizard-y versions. And let me tell you, getting chased by a gigantic colorful chicken like monster is terrifying.

Some updates to the solitaire victory screen for my game. I want to make it deal out the title letters or something, but that's a lot of work and it is WAY too hot today.

Feels like 98 degrees (36.5 C) at 9 in the morning this is awesome. And it's only supposed to get hotter.

I get that everyone is pissed at video games with good reason, but going back to exclusively retro games isn't the answer. Supporting game devs who do things the right way is the answer. There are plenty, you just need to seek them out.

With PlayStation killing of games on disc, here is your reminder that my game will be available on CD I'll give you a steam key with it, but you can also just play it from the CD. There's nothing stopping you from getting a USB CD drive for ten bucks and encouraging indies to make physical versions

In magic the gathering, when someone plays a combo deck that takes forever and you don't get to interact, it's called a solitaire deck, since they just play solitaire while you sit there. Anyway, thanks to @sireel.itch.io I'm working on a new victory screen in my game for if you win by long combo.

Nothing inspires me more to work on my game than talking to IRL non gamers about it. Gamers are like so what you made a unique artistic experience reflective of you by yourself? It's too expensive and the art is bad. Normal people are like wow you built this? That's amazing!

I might crash and burn leaving my job and making this game, but at least I know I will have gone for it with everything I have. As my friend just said when we were talking about it: "everyone dreams about doing something like this but few people have the stones to go for it"

If I aim to release into early access in the next year and a half or two years or so, I guess that means I need to prioritize a demo so I can put it in a next fest. So I guess my new goal is to get a polished public demo up on steam by this time next year. Will I do it? Who knows?

According to the creation date of my files, it's been just about two years since I started working on this game. Since then I've built the engine and most of the card game mechanics. I want to get the full complement of cards in there and the story, and release to early access. Wishlist I guess?

Lots of games marketing things talk about having a hook. My issue is I have like 10 hooks, and I'm never sure which ones to use at a given time. Here is a list of the biggest hooks (not all of them) for my indie game, in no particular order:

I see a lot more gorgeous games with very mid gameplay than I see not very attractive games with great gameplay. I guess it makes sense, graphics sell more and are easier to reliably make good and unique, but I would really prefer more of the latter.

I think gaming as a whole would be better off if everyone just understood that video games take a really really long time to make. Like, the better part of a decade long. That's just how long it takes to make a good sized game from scratch.

I wish we still lived in the era of game manuals. Not just because they're neat, but because some information is easier to communicate via a manual than a hamfisted tutorial. I would LOVE to have reference material for my game. And I'll put some in, but I also have to spell everything out.

Actually, you know what part of my issue was when I bounced off game dev before? Doing it at night. Too variable. I didn't know what I would be doing after work or how I would feel. Doing it first thing in the morning I can be consistent and do the same thing every day, which is what I need.

Nobody likes me streaming more than my cat. He gets to sit in a pillow in my lap, and chat gives him a bunch of treats. Every time I sit in front of my computer on camera, he comes running. How he knows I'm on camera, I have no idea, but he does.
