I think a lot of my characters are "imprisoned" in one way or another by their circumstances, even if they aren't physically locked up. #HorrorWritersChat

#HorrorWritersChat State of mind is my favorite to play with in my own stories, because it's a challenge to do well. Most people on the outside looking in don't understand why the character is stuck. In other peoples' writing, I think something surreal is tied with metaphorical imprisonment.

I often end up writing things that are real within the world of the story (as in, something weird is physically happening) but obviously metaphorical to the reader. Like the one about a woman getting sealed into her body as her features gradually vanish...

I read a lot of books by objectively terrible people because I work on 18th century literature. It's a bit of a given. But yet, I do not and will not, read or in any way knowingly support the work of people doing harm in real time with the money they get from that very work (or its licensing)
