I’m in Vienna right now. A city which went from being the intellectual and cultural capital of the world to a “provincial backwater” (to quote Brian Barry) in a couple of decades due to nationalism, anti-semitism and fascism which drove away the leading scholars and artists it didn’t murder.

This is a good example of a reasonable proposal in a normal context (with increased regulatory staffing and capacity). It's a terrible idea if the agencies are told to twiddle their thumbs.

Keep seeing/hearing news reports of MAGA fury at people celebrating Kirk’s killing (just now, NPR cited Stephen Miller’s outrage about this). But I have yet to see/hear a single example reported of such “celebration” —nothing close to Kirk’s own vile celebration of Paul Pelosi’s hammer attacker.
