I'm very undecided in the 2028 primary, but in the general election I will *happily* vote for AOC, Newsom, Buttigieg, Harris, Bernie, or literally any other Democrat over 4 more years of MAGA fascism.

One Trump-allied company controlling more than 60% of local TV news in your city means: - Trump could have more influence over what you watch - Your prices could skyrocket - You could have fewer choices But state AGs are fighting this, and I'm with them. We've got to stop this.

When pro-democracy forces return to power, it is critical they take seriously the degradation and capture of the public square. We can't allow a tiny handful of corrupt, anti-human billionaires to control the production and distribution of news and information.

Increasingly seems to me like the WH has *intentionally* taken out a "blame Israel" insurance policy as a kind of fallback/escape route when and if things go sideways.

We are never going to make a deal with Iran or anybody else as long as Trump is in office. He's a serial liar and breaks his own "deals" all the time. Nobody is going to trust a liar.

All bad options, but Option 1 seems the least bad for ridership IMO. How the hell do they intend to build the new tunnel only to Seattle Center, though?

I don't really like the thing we're apparently doing now where we call a foreign government a "Terrorist Regime," and that I guess unlocks the right to ignore diplomacy, assassinate their leaders, and disregard civilian casualties.

Per Punchbowl's Jake Sherman, the White House has told Congress it's willing to give ground on a number of issues in the neighborhood of Dem asks. TBC this is not a full cave (not clear if any of this would even be codified), but it's definitely moving towards what Democrats have asked for.

We are moving like 2000 ground troops to the middle east. If this is the invasion force, we are going to fail. Iran is a huge country and has been preparing for an asymmetric fight for decades. We need literally x100 times that many soldiers to "take the straight by force."

TLJ would have been an okay (just okay IMO) movie as a stand alone IP, but it just does not fit as a Star Wars film. Either the rules of Space War matter, or Space War doesn't matter.

Nobody did anything to stop Iran from getting a nuke (except Obama, who made a deal which international bodies agreed Iran was abiding by and which President Dealmaker tore up out of spite)! So really, we had no choice.

I think people are overrating the odds the ayatollah is a purely rational utility maximizer and underrating the odds the guy is rather upset about his father, wife, and daughter being incinerated and wants his pound of flesh.

It’s not like mining will change the amount of traffic through Hormuz, which will go from zero to zero, but it immediately makes the fallout global and irreversible, by ensuring that traffic remains zero for the foreseeable future. Which is why it’s odd it’s getting only moderate press attention

For instance his recent militaristic streak very obviously comes from how well Venezuela seemed to work out. Because he is deeply stupid, instead of thinking "wow, I got lucky" or "I wonder why that worked so well" he thought "ah, if you do a war, the other side becomes a compliant vassal, neat."

I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public. I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are. 1/ Here's what I can share:

i sort of think part of the problem here is that accurately portraying american sentiment about this war would shred a lot of other assumptions about the second trump admin that much of the political press have been running with since the start

Summing up Iran news today, I think. - US/Israel strikes continue - Iran doesn't want talks, still firing on neighbors - US asked Israel to stop hitting Iranian energy infra - US claimed to be escorting tankers - oops no it isn't - Mines in the water - ~80-90% of Iran mine laying capacity intact

There are, right now, multiple ships approach the Straight of Hormuz from the east. These vessels are underway and headed for ports on the Arabian penninsula (particularly the UAE). I think in the next couple hours we'll see how serious Iran is (or isn't) about the straights being closed.

The American political class is utterly delusional, adrift in a dream of normality, unable to process the actual reality of events on the ground, where the US just launched a completely unprovoked war against a massive country, murdered its leadership, and demanded its conversion to a vassal state.
