Because if you care about securely owning a movie that you love--as opposed to "owning" it only until a license agreement over which you have no control expires without warning--you need a DVD or Blu-ray. The hardware may be yesterday; the concern is very much of this moment.

I flew home from Disneyland with a lightsaber in my carry on and TSA had no issues. I also kept my plastic Coke bottle shaped like a thermal detonator (grenade), it was all good

Theaters donāt need to reinvent the experience here. It doesnāt need to be a concert. Enforce phone use, maintain your projectors, bring back honest theatrical windows and hire a staff who cares about it. Thatās all. I donāt need a four course meal, props, special guests or gimmicks. Give us movies.

The ālost chapterā video game cutscene that plays after The Whole Bloody Affair is the first decent argument Iāve ever seen for leaving the theater as soon as the credits start. Youāve been warned.

Can anyone explain to me why this is considered a reasonable argument in a world where my tax dollars finance massive stadiums so the public continues to have access to live sports?

Itās fun to think about the surgeon who will botch your surgery 20 years from now and what heās doing at this moment. He just ran all his homework through ChatGPT. He just read that article about vaccines and autism at the CDC website. He just watched an Instagram video about the moon landing hoax.

Great read. Itās always frustrated me that criticism of the uncomfortable Munich sex scene never accounts for the sex scene in the beginning of the movie. The two scenes are so obviously in conversation with each otherā¦

A defense of the sex scene in Steven Spielberg's Munich. 20 years ago I wrote this piece. It was not really anything close to a consensus opinion, and still isn't. I'm proud of it.

I don't know what will happen in NYC tonight, but I do know that regardless of outcome, any number of public figures, celebrities, politicians and institutions that oppose Mamdani have done so with a level of rhetorical ugliness, racism, and dishonesty that should neither be forgotten nor forgiven.

Seen a few Q&As in the past month with filmmakers releasing their movie with Netflix, and have been enjoying the different ways they manage to get in a passive aggressive dig at their studio with effusive praise for the theatrical experience.
