I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm still always brought up short to realize how many people think "civility" means "white people speaking in relatively calm voices" no matter what vile shit they say.

The collapse of the trad wife and blue collar wife who works from home model should be interesting for republicans. This isn’t Avon money anymore. A lot of of the female economy has kept middle class households afloat. But we will see 🤷🏾♀️

We're at the very beginning of organizing a grassroots public history convening here in NYC in 2026. It will be a way to bring together folks who are engaged in local public history in a grassroots way so we can connect, share ideas, network etc... Wondering if folks in other cities have done this?

Preferring nonfiction, I rarely read fiction - let alone historical fiction. But...I really, really enjoyed Last Night at the Telegraph Club, a historical novel geared toward young adult readers. Set in 1950s San Francisco, it centers a Chinese American teenage girl discovering her queerness.

Absolutely. Also we did something called “Mousercise” (the Disney kid-friendly Jazzercise) in elementary school. I joined band as soon as I could so I didn’t have to go to P.E., which was unhelpful anyway.

This seems like kind of a big story and it's frustrating that we're still getting "it's time for liberals to consider the lab leak" think pieces. The two best pieces of "evidence" come directly from the Trump Administration and have completely fallen apart under scrutiny!

Yeah this is an old fem tech argument. It was recently misapplied in a piece about AI and emotions. We don’t think of tech as human to humanize the tech. We are supposed to think about tech as humanoid, with possible rights or ethical needs, BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL TREAT HUMANS (WOMEN/FEMMES) LIKE TECH

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology. If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.
