I don't think it's overdramatic to say that we must consider whether we want "working artist" to be a viable prospect in the near future, and how to materially protect the field from corporations, execs, and managers all too happy to automate creative production with AI.

Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing. These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.

I see a lot of folks asking for the “old instagram/twitter/deviantart” back, and while I relate to that feeling and frustration, social media isn’t the only thing that changed. We did too. Our expectations, the way and reasons we use these sites changed so much, I’m not sure there’s going back.

We need to start speaking up- no- YELLING to support and defend trans people. If you're in the USA, call your legislators. Literally email and call your representatives. Cis people have the loudest voices right now and those voices MUST be used to protect trans people.

I use this as an opportunity to maybe educate people on why generative AI is damaging, and fill in the info they're missing BUT the asking for justification part gets real tiring real fast. Why do I have to provide "excuses" for wanting to rely on my own mind and capabilities?
