I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

I feel like the advice to not put your eggs into one basket by using those apps that mass-post your stuff to multiple platforms does people dirty because of this don't really like the thought of dropping stuff somewhere I never look

people complaining about different numbers on twitter vs bluesky - like. its an internet literacy thing. You do not know what those numbers mean if you are putting that much weight into them on the dead bird site. Likes and reposts are not analogous to real audience or click through/stay rate.
