I'm painting again! 🎉 So far it seems that wearing cotton gloves under nitrile plus long sleeves is working to curb my allergy, hooray! For now I'm painting a bunch of silly little things to retrain my hand to work while wearing gloves, but I'm getting better each day and I'm feeling hopeful! 💛

thanks for all the allergy advice, friends! For now, I'm going to try cotton gloves layered under powderless nitrile + long sleeves (and maybe a carbon filter mask if needed) and if that doesn't work, I might investigate homemade/small-scale gouache and paper. I'll let you know what works!

An update on the paint allergy: Winsor Newton got back to me, and yep, they use isothiazolinone as a preservative in their paints. Now to see if literally all my supplies contain it... I'll update when I hear responses if others are interested

So...I was just diagnosed with a Methylisothiazolinone allergy, which means I'm probably allergic to all my paints and my paper 🙃 I've emailed every manufacturer I use to ask if they use this chemical, but do any of my fellow traditional artists have paint-allergy advice? Do gloves work?

One of the things that has especially bothered me about the ICE raids is that often folks are taken with no way to contact their loved ones to let them know what happened. One of the most helpful things you can do as a legal upstander is get this info - but these abductions are chaotic at best.
