Whole class feedback. Took in sample of 8 books - deliberately selected below target students and those who wanted feedback. Share key learning from the sample with rest of class for whole class feedback. Took just 30 mins but great way of checking understanding and useful whole class feedback

Two very important graphs. Net migration reached record levels in 2023 - and has since halved. The vast majority of arrivals comprises students and workers. Arrivals in small boats and asylum seekers - less than 5%.

Teachers who feel their teaching has improved were almost 3x more likely to look forward to the new school year (11% vs 4%) 👍 Motivation grows when progress is recognised - leaders can support this by celebrating growth and reflecting on practice.

The scenes on our streets are shameful consequences of decades of austerity - government after government fanning the flames of anti migration instead of tackling inequality. We can & must make different choices. Solidarity to all communities under attack. We stand together.

If we must have 'pride' in a sense of being 'British' I'd much rather it was about village life, rolling landscapes, vibrant cities, a brilliant creative arts scene and a pretty successful multicultural society (despite all the negativity about immigration). Football hooligans don't speak for me.

One positive today was the introduction of ‘equipment rave’ to my new year 7 tutees. My year 10s last year did it begrudgingly/ironically but year 7 really came through. Put on some rave music and shout out an equipment item, they have to wave it in the air like they just don’t care.

Today was very mixed. I feel like I’ve made a great start with the department (which was the bit I was worried about) but teaching lessons has been really hard. The adapting to change is going to take a little while. I felt really down at the end of the day, but must remember it’s not personal.
